Canada Bread serves major grocery chains, retail outlets, and foodservice operations across Canada. The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream, and super-premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet.
The Black Belt will work among a team of Continuous Improvement professionals towards the deployment of the Grupo Bimbo Lean system while delivering upon business critical continuous improvement projects. Success is measured in terms successful adoption of Lean by client teams and the measurable impact of improvement efforts. The role is combination of leading improvement projects, facilitation of workshops and coaching on appropriate application of Lean Six Sigma tools. The Black Belt will be called upon to collaborate with teams to turn around underperforming work areas, provide process owners with decision support and counsel using a fact based approach. People typically successful in this role demonstrate well developed oral and written communication skills, good critical thinkers, have a bias for action, demonstrate personal accountability, integrity, managerial courage and an ability to influence change without direct authority. This role is about driving change, challenging status quo while developing high performance among the teams within the sphere influence of the Black Belt.
  • Operates as a coach, mentor and project leader as required by the site situation
  • Plans and runs Kaizens, workshops, training sessions and other large group facilitations
  • Drive Lean Culture and tools deployment to deliver measurable improvements across dimensions of safety, quality, environment and productivity
  • Collaborates closely with site leadership and very quickly builds trust and support from coworkers
  • Will quickly assess the site situation and propose a pipeline of opportunities using diagnostic tools like Value Stream Maps, constraints analysis and process reliability analysis
  • Scope, direct, plan, and manage multiple concurrent continuous improvement projects to ensure that goals are accomplished within committed time frames and budgets
  • Ensure project teams are utilizing the appropriate improvement methodology
  • Enhance the sustainability of implementation through application of change management
  • Quickly understand the critical aspects of a situation in order to provide coaching on the fly
  • Builds strong teams, works collaboratively while holding people accountable for their work
  • Periodic travel may be required for training or project work
  • A university degree (business or technical degree preferred)
  • Bi-lingual English and French is an asset
  • MBA, Masters in Science or Engineering an asset
  • Lean or Six Sigma Certification from a prior organization or American Society of Quality
  • Change Management or Coaching skill experience and certification an asset
  • Minimum 5 to 8 years of full-time work experience depending on level of responsibility; with a minimum of 3 years working in a manufacturing facility.  Management experience within a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Track record of delivering winning results.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Strong communication skills.  Ability to communicate well (verbal and written) with shop floor employees and senior managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effect change through influence
  • Has led and/or coached prior continuous improvement projects.  Considered a strong coach on continuous improvement concepts.
  • Experience in leading complex projects that require strong leadership, initiative, and change management would be an asset.
  • Is able to build strong teams and work collaboratively with peers while holding people accountable for their work
