The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream and super-premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet 

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager for our Hamilton facility.
 
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Manager will lead, coach, and mentor the production supervisors and shift teams to achieve quality bakery production and safety goals that meet or exceed the expectations of our customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure manufactured products meet specifications including compliance to Bills of Material
• Ensure product quality inspections are carried out effectively on the shift, and are documented correctly
• Ensure process parameters are maintained within prescribed limits and documentation is filled out correctly
• Design, develop, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Accomplish results through highly involved and motivated team members
• Develop and supervise crews on shift; be action oriented and provide leadership to associates and direct production and related activities on a shift.
• Communicate openly within the work team, between shifts, to manager, and to other departments
• Facilitate team meetings as required
• Train and/or coach team members for improved safety, quality, productivity or teamwork performance
• Work with Plant Leadership and Human Relations to define formal coaching/disciplinary needs of unionized staff as required
• Ensure team members understand and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures
• Utilize best practices in safety leadership
• Identify safety and ergonomic concerns, and ensure concerns are addressed correctly
• Conduct thorough investigations of all incidents, with a focus on prevention
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and orderliness
• Facilitate shift safety meetings as required
• Pursue safety improvement opportunities and projects
• Ensure associates are trained and follow the policies and procedures of plant HACCP/GMP program.
• Must be knowledgeable and be able to follow GMPs, Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements
• Provide performance management counseling and/or progressive discipline in a timely fashion when required.
• Document and maintain accurate records with respect to associate performance, product quality, daily reconciliation, health and        safety, and payroll. Adhere to company standards
• Develop, lead and coach associates through effective training and recognition
• Achieve budget and plans to utilize equipment, supplies, and personnel to maximize productivity
• To be flexible, capable and willing to be ‘hands on' to perform any other leadership, technical or production-related task(s) as the circumstances require, at other nearby Company locations

PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA:
  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Food Science, Business or Operations Management is preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in a large unionized food or related manufacturing environment, ideally in a Bakery Operations
  • Proven capability to build high-functioning teams, including career development of direct reports
  • Previous multi-site experience and accountability
  • Results oriented and thrive in a fast paced demanding environment
  • Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills
