A skilled and confidant Journeyman Machinist to join our amazing Maintenance team! We want someone who possesses manual dexterity and has an eye for detail, enjoys math and mechanics, and values safety as your number one priority. This is a full-time role, which presents a great opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast paced facility in the food industry.

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Reviewing samples, drawings or instructions to understand specifications of output
  • Planning the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job
  • Taking measurements and marking material for cutting or shaping
  • Operate a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks
  • Produce or repair precision parts using both manual and automated equipment and accurate measurements
  • Acts as a liaison for contractors conducting repairs in the Plant
  • Must practice good communication skills with Maintenance Team Members, Production
  • Supervisors and Management and all plant associates. Has good teamwork and inter-personal communication skills
  • Responsible for compliance to Health & Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety and Environmental standards at all times
  • Attends all meetings as required
  • Performs other duties as required
 
PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA:
  • Understands and has the highest respect for safety.
  • Valid Red Seal Journeyman Machinist ticket is required
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, grinders etc.)
  • Ability to use precision tools (e.g. calipers) to take accurate measurements
  • Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
  • Good at math with analytical abilities
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items
  • A good team player that enjoys working in a great team environment.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and ability
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn
  • Must be able to work with minimal or no supervision
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Must be willing to work scheduled (day/ afternoon/ night) shifts and weekends
  • Must be prepared to work extra overtime hours when required
  • Must have excellent work & attendance record
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
  • Demonstrated ability to wear proper PPE and comply
  • Adherence with safety requirements and policies eg. Ensures lock out tag out policy adherence is enforced by self and others
  • Frequent twisting, bending, pulling, pushing, crouching, kneeling, walking and heavy lifting are required
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs overhead
  • Ensure all procedures are in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, Company Joint Safety Committee programs and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
