Position Summary: 
You would become a member of our maintenance team learning different skills by working alongside qualified license maintenance professionals.  To ensure you are learning all the aspects of the trade, you will be required to attend school on a day release program where you will learn certain trade skills and apply them on the job.  Attending school is a requirement of the program and the timing will be based on both the availability of the school schedule and the needs of the business.  The tuition (incl. books) is 100% covered by the Company upon receipt of a passing grade. Completing school requirements – such as studying or completing homework - will be done outside of Company time and will not be paid for by the Company.  Upon completion of the program and successfully completing the required education and testing you would receive a Certificate of Qualification.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Maintain all production and facility equipment in good working condition to maximize production uptime
  • Conduct regular inspections on all machinery for defects and potential problems in accordance with EPDA’s preventative maintenance program, repairing and replacing parts as required, in time allotment specified
  • Complete work assignments as directed through assignment of work orders; ensure all work is completed thoroughly, safely and in a timely manner
  • Assists Journeyman with modifications and repairs to machinery and equipment.
  • Install new equipment coordinated with outside services, as required
  • Establish and maintain maintenance standards and develop and recommend maintenance programs
  • Notify appropriate personnel of stock deficiencies and tool/material requirements
  • Observe legislative standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as rules and regulations outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Support and maintain the department lean initiatives, Assists with Continuous Improvement Projects
  • Must maintain performance standards through duration of apprenticeship; poor performance may result in removal from the Apprenticeship program
  • Must apply and write the Provincial examination within one (1) year of completion date of apprenticeship
  • Performs any and all other assignments as directed by your Supervisor or Department manager
  • Coordinate continuous improvement initiatives
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Failing to pass schooling could result in termination with the Company
  • Minimum grade 12 or equivalent required. Successful candidates must provide proof of Grade 12 (or GED) to Ministry of Training, colleges and Universities when signing up for the Apprenticeship
  • Must be registered with the school of trades
  • Must be committed to completing the formal schooling as part of a “Day Release” program and committed to the study and the testing required as part of the program certification.
  • Must be committed to completing the 8000hrs of practical OJT training, as required for certification
  • Related work experience and/or training in a machining environment (high volume automotive manufacturing environment would be viewed as an asset); experience with CNC machines a definite asset
  • Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results orientation
  • Strong mathematical, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills are required. Computer fundamentals an asset
  • Must possess good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and be a team player
  • Must be flexible and willing to work any shifts or times (including weekends), as required
  • Must be able to demonstrate good multi-tasking skills and deal with a rapidly changing work environment
  • Must adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices,
  • Good understanding and adherence to 5S practices will be mandatory
  • Must work in compliance of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Strong Electronic/Mechanical background is considered a definite asset.
  • Must be well organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must have ability to safely lift up to 40-50lbs
  • Able to communicate effectively, both written and verbally, at all levels of the organization

  • Pay will be governed by the amount of hours worked as an apprentice and appropriate skilled trade classification as outlined below:
    • 2001-4000 hrs (+ successful completetion of first year schooling) 70% wage rate
    • 4001-6000 hrs (+ successful complettino of 2nd year schooling) 80% wage rate
    • 6001 hrs to completeion (+ successful completion of 3rd year schooling) 90% wage rate
  • Wage minimum rate is $33.72/hr
