Production Supervisor (12 month contract)

Job purpose  
The Production Supervisor is responsible for all Continues Improvement projects within the plant to drive bottom line savings. Has further responsibility to coach and guide associates through project implementation, driving a philosophy of Continues Improvement and implementing the methodology and tools to our business, providing problem-solving leadership and change management. In addition, will provide ongoing support to the production supervisors and will act as production supervisor when required.   

This is a 12 month contract.

Duties and responsibilities  
  • Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
  • Manage multiple cross-functional projects that are critical to the plant’s cost control objectives o Identify Continues Improvement opportunities within the mfg. operation o Provide periodic reports and/or in-person updates to plant leadership on project progress
  • Build and manage effective working relationships with associates across the facility and the broader operations team, to influence process, decisions and outcomes
  • Facilitate and organize problem solving to achieve breakthrough in process performance
o Optimization of manufacturing processes
o Determine process control and capabilities
o Perform statistical analysis 
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts within the plant via Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma tools/methodologies
  • Develop a deep knowledge and understanding of the facility and use that knowledge to identify opportunities and recommend solutions
o Process efficiencies (i.e. line efficiencies, sanitation optimization, maintenance PM execution, etc.)
o Manufacturing cost reduction o Labour optimization
o Reduction of raw material and packaging variances
  •  Act as production supervisor when required
·         generate production reports from processing lines

·         create/complete Descript Jobs in oracle
·         manage schedule of hourly associates
·         Dealing with unionized hourly associates
  • Proactively share knowledge and best practices with other facilities within the organization.
Qualifications  
  • University degree (preferred) in Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related discipline  
  • Experience and throughout understanding of Lean Manufacturing techniques including Kaizen, 5S, visual mgmt., SMED (change over), standard work, and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with ability to develop strong relationships across all functional teams and proven skills to influence without authority
  • Strong facilitation skills couple with an exhibited ability of gaining consensus and aligning multiple stakeholders to embrace strategies
  • Strong knowledge base and proficient with MS office (i.e. excel, word, PowerPoint, etc.), project management tools and technology
  • Experience with ERP systems such as oracle (preferred)
  • Experience and solid knowledge base of Minitab, Jump or other statistical software applications
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in a food manufacturing industry, including experience in Lean Six Sigma or Continues Improvement methodologies. Application and integration of principles within a manufacturing environment – administrative / transactional applications a plus
Working conditions  
May be required to work evenings, weekend work and/or shift work in order to achieve the proper project execution and meeting timelines.
