Position Summary:
 
The HR Coordinator will provide a full range of strategic and operational HR Coordinator support to Human Relations team in servicing both the hourly and salaried teams in our Western Region. The incumbent will be responsible for providing front-line day to day operational support with HR priorities including but not limited to full cycle recruitment of frontline hourly associates, capturing HR metrics, drafting of correspondence as required and providing support to meet HR initiatives. The incumbent will assist the Senior HR Manager and Advisors in Edmonton AB, Winnipeg MB and Langley BC with the administration and hourly recruiting requirements.   Given the nature of support to different cities in the West, some travel will be required between Edmonton, Winnipeg, Langley and Calgary.
 

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure adequate hourly staffing levels are maintained by coordinating with Advisors on recruiting needs.
  • Lead the hourly recruitment process for skilled labour including applicant selection, interviewing, and reference checking and offer preparation.
  • Participate in develop of training materials and new hire orientation.
  • Support supervisors with facility & corporate training initiatives (SISTEM).
  • The coordination of internal job postings, transfers, layoffs, recalls and related administration.
  • Assist with administration of the pension and benefit plans including coordinating with the Corporate Pension and Benefits team on new enrollments, plan changes, plan terminations and employee specific issues.
  • Provide support to ensure that payroll can be processed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide coaching and training to Supervisors and hourly associates on Human Relations processes and policies.
  • Respond to hourly employee inquires and concerns and take steps to resolve issues.
  • Assist Advisor with reported employee incidents and assist in the delivery of any required disciplinary action.
  • Review, updating and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate employee files for hourly associates.
  • Assist in the organization of company social events.
  • Other duties as assigned 
Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary education in HR Management or Business Administration with 2+ years of Coordinator/Administrator HR experience in a unionized environment. Alternative education and equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to thrive in fast paced environment.
  • Experience in a unionized, manufacturing environment.
  • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to and effectively manage multiple priorities in a large size organization.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, coaching skills
  • High standards of integrity, energy level, and self-motivation.
  • Strong customer service orientation and conflict management skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of applicable legislation and its applications.

  • Positive attitude with strong relationship building skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Completed or working towards a CHRP/CHRL designation is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, complemented by excellent attention to details, follow-up and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and complex situations with sound judgment, tact and discretion.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and HRIS systems.
