Hiring Requirements: Transportation Planner is a 16-month contract position responsible for planning and coordinating daily execution of Western region transportation activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan daily transportation requirements to optimize loads while minimizing costs
Use Oracle Transportation and Excel tools to plan daily transportation
Book transportation requirements with third party carriers ensuring all information is relayed accurately
Communicate with Production, Distribution and Sales teams to ensure on-time product pickup and delivery
Provide carriers with transportation details, including:
Pickup and delivery dates
Type, volume and weight of shipment requirements
Appropriate rates (as required)
Ensure shipments are updated in Oracle with correct information and changes are made as required
Monitor transportation services issues and escalate as required
Maintain accurate computer records of all transportation activities, including dispatch files, record of customer requests and services rendered
Coordinate shunting requirements through plants and distribution centers
Manage reverse logistics and tray replenishment to production facilities and co-manufacturers
Assist in the monitoring and tracking of fleet assets (trays and trailers)
Ensure adequate levels of assets are maintained at each of the facilities
Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members
Daily transportation schedule setup and execution
Changes to transportation schedule and adjusting in Oracle
Negotiate transportation spot buys for unscheduled shipments
Experience & Education:
1-3+ years of relevant work experience in Transportation operations
Can work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Excellent communication skills
Attention in detail
Timely decision making and problem-solving abilities
Proficient in MS Office, Excel, Word
Bilingualism is an asset
Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by rail and road, including the relative costs and benefits
Experience with regional transportation regulations and laws
Excellent communicator able to coordinate on a daily basis with internal and external customers
Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and complete work
Maintain transportation performance in the face of various contingencies
Experience with transportation operations
