Hiring Requirements: The Sensory Specialist plays a strong role in the design and execution of sensory research and concept evaluations that drive innovation and product renovation initiatives. The role collaborates closely with the Sensory Lead, as well as cross-functional partners in Marketing and Research and Development, to advance high-impact projects. The Sensory Specialist delivers actionable insights and supports strategic decision-making to promote organizational growth and ensure the development of market-leading products.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the coordination of sensory research activities with external courier services and manage consumer databases to ensure efficient project execution.
Lead product cuttings and serve as a reliable expert in articulating detailed sensory profiles to inform project teams and stakeholders.
Develop questionnaire designs in collaboration with the Sensory Lead and cross-functional teams, including Marketing and Research and Development.
Perform comprehensive data recording and conduct statistical analyses to accurately interpret sensory research findings.
Prepare clear and actionable research reports, providing well-founded recommendations to key stakeholders such as R&D, Marketing, and Quality Assurance teams.
Continuously explore, evaluate, and implement innovative sensory research methodologies as appropriate to advance program effectiveness.
Maintain and monitor the sensory research budget to ensure optimal allocation of resources and adherence to financial guidelines, and continuously look for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce cost.
Collaborate with external sensory partners to facilitate and conduct external 60/40 testing, ensuring robust and reliable results in compliance with Global Sensory protocols.
Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and management of coop students as needed to support the sensory research function.
Experience & Education:
B.Sc. or College Diploma in Food Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a consumer or sensory science-focused role.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proven ability to identify problems, gather and analyze relevant data, establish facts, draw sound conclusions, and recommend effective solutions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and mathematical abilities, with knowledge of statistics and statistical software considered an asset.
Familiarity with Compusense and/or XLStat software is advantageous.
Ability to effectively collaborate with and present to cross-functional teams.
Willingness and ability to travel as required; possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable access to a personal vehicle are mandatory.
Commitment to a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum expectation of three days per week working onsite at the office.
Openness to sampling a wide variety of foods as part of job responsibilities.
Demonstrated passion for the field of sensory and a strong motivation for ongoing professional development within the discipline.
The annual salary range for applicants is: $60,000 - $80,000, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
