Senior Specialist, Baking Technology and Commercialization

Hiring Requirements:
Under the direction of the Manager, Baking Technology and Commercialization, the successful candidate will serve as the primary technical liaison for bakery management teams, ensuring the consistent production of high-quality baked goods. Additionally, this individual will collaborate closely with the Research & Development team and other cross-functional departments, including marketing, regulatory affairs, finance, and purchasing, to support the commercialization of new bakery products.
This role demands adaptability and readiness to travel between the Toronto and Hamilton bakeries, as well as bakeries located in the Atlantic region. The work schedule must remain flexible in order to accommodate the diverse production timelines and operational requirements of the bakeries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take a leadership role in resolving product and process issues encountered by the bakeries. Develop and implement actionable plans, ensuring accountability among all bakery teams for meeting established timelines.
  • Lead the commercialization of new product launches, product reformulations, and productivity initiatives within regional bakeries, ensuring seamless execution and successful outcomes.
  • Develop comprehensive product and process specification documents to support new product launches, ensuring clarity and consistency across all stakeholders.
  • Ensure all project team members understand their deliverables and are equipped to meet project deadlines, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
  • Guide plant management teams in implementing cost reduction strategies for products and processes, driving operational excellence and efficiency.
  • Support Quality Assurance in addressing quality-related complaints, including internal product evaluations, consumer feedback, reduction of rejections, and other quality improvement initiatives as required.
  • Serve as the technical baking lead for plant management and engineering teams during projects involving modifications to manufacturing processes and/or equipment, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality products.
  • Provide training and coaching to bakery employees on ingredients, baking techniques, processes, and equipment, enhancing team knowledge and operational capabilities.
Experience & Education
  • University degree in Food Science (note: candidates with equivalent training, combined with experience deemed relevant will be considered during the selection process);
  • 5+ years of experience in a bakery environment is preferred.  
  • Competency working with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook is a must
  • Demonstrate leadership skills to interact with and lead project teams effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; able to lead through challenging situations and update on project status
  • Must give attention to detail and rigor in follow-ups;
  • Must demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and professionalism.
  • Must have a problem-solving philosophy focused on analyzing statistics and/or factual data

The annual salary range for applicants is: $67,700 - $100,000, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
