Canada Bread serves major grocery chains, retail outlets, and foodservice operations across Canada. The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream, and super-premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  • The successful candidate will provide finance support to the Information Technology (IT) function for CBCL and it’s subsidiaries
  • The total IT budget is estimated between $40M to $60M providing diverse responsibilities for the role
  • The IT team is comprised of several directors, each with their own budget for operational (ongoing – annual recurring) expenses and projects (one-time implementations)
  • The organization is constantly changing and improving, resulting in a fast paced and dynamic environment, providing a versatile and continuous learning opportunity
  • Finance support required is full cycle, including: accounting and administration (financial analyst to perform day to day), budget to actual analysis (at director level and consolidated), forecasting, investigation of director financial concerns, project guidance, oversee process improvement and ad-hoc requests
  • Day to day accounting, administration and vendor management will be supported by a financial analyst.  This candidate will provide guidance and lead the financial analyst to success within the role
  • Initially, the candidate will be responsible for performing day to day financial analyst functions until the organization brings the financial analyst onboard (new position)
  • Candidate will be responsible for assisting the financial analyst on day to day functions as required to meet deliverables in a timely manner
 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Consolidated and segregated (by director, subsidiary and cost centre) budget to actual analysis and forecast
  • Budget to actual analysis to provide insights and thorough understanding of operations, allowing stakeholders to make informed and quality decisions
  • Exercise IFRS judgment - determine if transactions are expense, prepaid, capital or intangible
  • Thoroughly review project costs to date vs. budget with IT directors to ensure accuracy of cost  classification and allocation to various projects
  • Determine required accruals
  • Liaison with IT directors, address and resolve queries – significant responsibility due to volume of support required
  • Review and perform journal entries and reconciliations
  • Manage administration (oversee financial analyst responsibilities):
    • Full cycle accounting including administration of invoices, vendor relations and other accounts payable functions
    • Preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
    • Compile detailed budget to actual analysis for IT cost centers
    • Assist financial analyst as required during high volume periods
  • Support management team as needed
  • Improve current processes, reporting and analysis through innovation – strong opportunity to advance efficiency and effectiveness
PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA
  • 3-5 years post undergraduate experience with CPA designation
  • Public accounting experience or other competitive environment within North America preferred
  • Experiencing managing a variety clients and stakeholders simultaneously (internal or external)
  • IFRS experience preferred – specifically capitalization criteria for tangible and intangible assets
  • Intermediate to advanced PC proficiency (MS Excel is a must): Pivot table, Vlookup etc,
  • A self-starter with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work with a positive attitude and in a professional manner
  • Enjoy working in a fast paced, changing environment
  • Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Oracle experience is an asset
