MARKETS:
Canada Bread serves major grocery chains, retail outlets, and foodservice operations across Canada. The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream, and super-premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet.

Position Summary:  
        

The Cost Analyst reports to the GTA Finance Manager and oversees the plants accounting functions of the facilities in the GTA.  The position will serve as the accounting resource for local financial accounting, cost accounting activities, adherence to internal controls, and preparation of the annual budget plus liaison to Six Sigma.  This individual is a key resource of operation team to help identify new cost savings opportunities and provide value-added analysis of the operation.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Review Daily Cost Report and identify factors that contribute to the daily production results.
  • Participation in daily production meetings.  Review results with Operations and provide guidance on understanding the results.
  • Prepare and lead weekly/monthly forecast with operations input.  Provide explanation of significant changes from week-to-week forecasts.
  • Research and reporting on factors influencing plants’ performance
  • Prepare and post journal entries for period end.
  • Prepare all related month-end reporting schedules including MCR schedules.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate guidelines relating to Bill 198/SOX.
  • Conducting reviews and evaluations for continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Review all Capital Costs (CER's) ensuring appropriate documentation and savings are included.
  • Forecast spending, project closing and post audit completion.  Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines
  • Develop costs for newly developed products, compile key business metrics and report on them to management.
  • Work with other departments such as Sales, Research & Development (R&D) and Production teams to determine costs of new products.
  • Works with Research and Development department to process Bill of Material (BOM) revisions and verify completion.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Finance related degree
  • 2-5 years of related or progressive work experience in cost analysis, accounting and operation finance
  • Ability to communicate clearly with all levels of the organization and be able to develop relationships with other functional personnel.
  • Detailed oriented, strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Excel skills including pivot tables, v-lookups and other functions
  • Knowledge of Oracle/SAP (or alternatively experience in another ERP software)
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Manufacturing experience an asset
  • Working towards an accounting designation; ie, min level 4 and up of CGA program would be an asset.
