Position Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the execution of engineering projects, including capital projects and process improvement initiatives. This role works closely with senior engineering teams to ensure that projects meet financial, quality, and schedule objectives. The Project Engineer will be involved in the planning, design, implementation, and support of engineering solutions across various projects, leading project coordination, technical support, and managing on-site day-to-day activities.
Key Responsibilities: Engineering Support
Assist in the planning, organization, and execution of engineering projects within the scope of the assigned responsibilities.
Support senior engineers in developing technical specifications, machinery requirements, and coordination for bidding processes.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the proper installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in production facilities.
Monitor project progress and provide technical input to ensure projects remain on track in terms of cost, quality, and schedule.
Project Coordination & Execution
Coordinate day-to-day project activities and work with cross-functional teams (including vendors, contractors, and internal departments) to ensure effective execution of projects.
Provide technical assistance in the procurement and management of equipment, materials, and services for ongoing projects.
Help in the preparation of project schedules, financial tracking, and procurement documentation, including Purchase Orders and Invoices.
Review project design details, track progress, and support the resolution of technical issues that arise during project execution.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure that engineering projects comply with all legislative, regulatory, and company standards, particularly in relation to safety, food safety, quality, and environmental practices.
Maintain an awareness of industry standards and best practices in capital project execution, especially in the food and manufacturing sectors.
Continuous Improvement & Process Support
Assist in the development of process improvements and contribute to the implementation of best practices in engineering operations.
Support senior engineering staff in evaluating and recommending opportunities for energy reduction and operational efficiencies.
Financial Management Support
Assist in managing project financials, including cost tracking, purchase order requisitions, and invoice approvals.
Help prepare capital project budgets and monitor ongoing project costs to ensure alignment with the financial objectives.
Experience & Education:
Engineering degree or relevant technical degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering preferred).
Experience in the food, manufacturing, or industrial sectors is an asset.
Knowledge of capital project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement, and project management.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Understanding of project management principles, including basic knowledge of Project Management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera).
Familiarity with technical documentation, including schematics, engineering drawings, and specifications.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, particularly in the context of project execution.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, or willingness to learn.
Basic understanding of construction site practices and regulatory requirements preferred.
Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, depending on project needs. (mainly East Canada: St Johns).
A Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation or working towards obtaining one is preferred but not required.
