Reliability Engineer

Hiring Requirements:
The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for implementing and sustaining a comprehensive Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) approach and Failure Elimination Program to maximize asset reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize maintenance resources. This position will focus on developing maintenance strategies, leveraging data analytics, and promoting continuous improvement to enhance equipment availability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
 
  1. Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Program:
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance strategies tailored to asset types and operational needs.
  • Utilize data analytics to optimize maintenance schedules and tasks continuously.
  • Standardize maintenance practices across similar assets and locations.
  • Implement condition-based and predictive maintenance technologies where applicable.
  • Regularly update preventive maintenance plans using asset performance data.
 
  1. Failure Elimination and Root Cause Analysis (RCA):
  • Identify "bad actor" assets with frequent failures or high maintenance costs.
  • Lead robust RCA processes for significant failures and recurring issues.
  • Form cross-functional teams to resolve "bad actor" issues and implement long-term solutions.
  • Maintain a knowledge repository of RCA findings for continuous learning.
 
  1. Improved Design Reliability and Operator Care:
  • Collaborate with equipment manufacturers to enhance asset design.
  • Apply design-for-reliability principles for new equipment acquisitions and modifications.
  • Develop operator care programs to involve frontline staff in basic maintenance tasks.
  • Establish guidelines for operator-level inspections and reporting.
 
  1. Maintenance Program Management:
  • Define and manage maintenance routines in the MAXIMO system, including preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency work.
  • Utilize FMECA and other risk assessment tools for critical equipment maintenance planning.
  • Incorporate predictive maintenance technologies based on feasibility and financial viability.
  • Monitor maintenance program performance using industry-standard metrics.
  • Act as a continuous improvement arm within the Maintenance Department.
 
  1. Continuous Improvement and Leadership:
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using evidence-based decision-making tools such as RCA, FMEA, PDCA, and 5-Why analysis.
  • Lead efforts to implement and evaluate asset management technologies and methods.
  • Foster a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Be an active change agent to bring in proactive ways of working while managing the people aspect.


Experience & Education
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field is preferred
  • 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in a skilled trade environment.
  • Proven project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with MAXIMO, Oracle, or Somax is an asset.
  • Superior communication skills in a multicultural team environment.
  • Knowledge of reliability principles, 5S programs, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented mindset, and a commitment to safety.
  • Expertise in reliability engineering practices or similar and maintenance optimization.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance planning, predictive technologies, and RCA tools.
  • Familiarity with asset management standards and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute to a high-performance team.
