Hiring Requirements: The Director of Operations for Western Canada is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the effective management of five (5) manufacturing facilities across Western Canada (one in BC, two in Alberta and two in Manitoba). This role focuses on driving operational excellence, ensuring safety in everything we do, achieving production goals, and fostering continuous improvement. The Director will collaborate closely with plant teams, regional leadership, and national stakeholders to align operations with the company’s strategic objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance:
Champion a safety-first culture by ensuring all work activities are performed safely and in compliance with both Bimbo Canada standards and OH&S regulations.
Develop and implement strategies to reduce total recordable injuries and enhance workplace safety and wellness.
Operational Excellence:
Ensure the production of daily sales demand to meet customer expectations with high levels of quality, order fill rates, and on-time delivery.
Drive cost efficiency by producing products at or below standard cost and optimizing resource utilization.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing methodologies such as Six Sigma and other operational excellence frameworks to improve effectiveness and reduce costs.
Union Relations:
Act as a primary partner with HR and key point of contact with union executive committees, fostering constructive and positive relationships.
Develop contingency plans and actively participate in collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations as required.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Maintain open and transparent communication with plant employees, regional business teams, and the national Senior Vice President of Operations.
Provide mentorship and guidance to plant leadership teams, fostering a culture of accountability and professional development.
Administrative Oversight:
Prepare and manage budgets, performance analyses (LERs), and periodic operational reports.
Ensure compliance with corporate policies and standards, including sustainability and quality protocols.
Travel Requirements:
Regularly travel between the five facilities to provide on-site leadership and support.
Attend national meetings in Ontario, or elsewhere, as required.
Experience & Education
Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing with progressively increasing responsibility, including multi-site management.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Proven experience in process manufacturing; food manufacturing experience is highly desirable.
Demonstrated expertise in critical thinking and problem-solving.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
In-depth knowledge of process manufacturing, including productivity and quality drivers.
Track record of driving continuous improvement and utilizing Six Sigma tools to enhance performance.
Comprehensive understanding of OH&S legislation and a history of implementing strategies to reduce injury frequency and maximize safety throughout all operations.
Proficiency in cost accounting and industrial engineering principles.
