Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, lead, and support collective bargaining processes across Ontario, while providing national-level expertise and perspective.
  • Research, analyze, and benchmark internal and external collective agreements (in Ontario and nationally) to inform labour relations strategy, with a focus on best practices, non-monetary provisions, and wage costs.
  • Advise on and support complex labour relations matters, and provide on-site HR support during peak periods, including coaching and guiding frontline leaders on resolving complex issues.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and monitor grievance trends in real time to inform bargaining proposals, mandates, and engagement strategies for hourly employees.
  • Enhance and advise on labour relations policies and programs (e.g., attendance management, investigations, labour-management committee practices, bargaining mandate structures).
  • Contribute to the management of labour relations master files, reports, and mandates, partnering with Finance to assess cost and operational impacts.
  • Prepare and support arbitration files and other legal processes in collaboration with Legal and regional HR teams.
  • Monitor and analyze union communications and mobilization activities to anticipate trends and shape bargaining strategies.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience as lead negotiator, having led multiple rounds of collective bargaining in recent years.
  • Strong communication skills and solid financial acumen.
  • Post-secondary education in Industrial Relations, Labour Relations, or a related field (or equivalent).
  • 3–5 years of direct experience in labour relations and collective bargaining.
  • Certification or advanced training in conflict resolution or mediation is considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable employment legislation (e.g., Ontario labour standards, ESA, human rights legislation).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, influencing, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel as required; a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Bimbo Canada supports a hybrid work model, with the expectation that 60% of time is spent on-site, where work is most impactful for stakeholders.
  • In-person presence is required during bargaining, key meetings, and critical business activities, as effective collaboration and stakeholder management are essential to success in this role.
